If all I want to do is IM, can I apply for prelim positions?
If so, what do I write as my PGY2 area of interest?

It is more difficult to get into Prelim Medicine positions than into Categorical IM spots coz' Prelim spots r also sought by applicants applying to many other specialties like Radiology,Neurology,Emergency Medicine,etc.
U will have to write any other specialty like Neuro,Radio,EM,etc as yur PGY2.
R u interested in these above mentioned specialties?
