The number of programs u need to apply to depends on yur credentials like Scores,Year of Graduation,No. of Attempts,etc.

my step 1 202 step 2 211 and cs done in first attempt yr graduation 2007 now i am finding observerships back home 1 yr experince in obgyn all steps done in first attempt plz tell wt r my chances in obgyn my scores r in range which i hve seen for obgyn on this forum i have heard v less dctrs apply for this field

The mean Step-1 n Step-2CK scores of the IMGs who matched into Ob & Gynae programs in 2009 were 212 and 219 respectively.
Find observerhsips in Ob & Gynae only.
U r still within five years of graduation n u don't have multiple attempts which is something positive.
Though your scores r below the mean scores of the matched applicants but still u can try yur luck.
Apply to programs only after checking their score and other criteria.
U can apply to Family Medicine as a back-up!

i am soo thankful for ur guidance i have checked the credentials of many programs i have not seen a single program uptill now who has given tht only these scores r required now mostly they write ecfmg certified or there r no minnimum score required but all ateps in first attempt so i think i will fit in tht i will apply in family med but family med i will be able to do subspeciality only in obs not gynae do u think wth these credentials shuld i apply in 100 obgyn programs

Also check where from r the current or past residents in each program.If they r Amercian Medical Graduates mostly then it is no fun applying to that particular program.
Check if they sonsor a visa(J1/H1b) coz u will need a visa.
Do also check how many resident spots they have coz if they have only few then it is no wisdom to apply to such programs.

The mean scores I mentioned above r of those IMG applicants who matched into Ob&Gynae programs in 2009.They r only mean scores so there is a score for some variation.

Yes, in FM u will only be able to do furhter training in Obstetrics only.
Apply to around 80-90 programs in Obs&Gynae and around 20-30 programs in FM if u r interested in that specialty.
