About Medical Education Credentials Ver?

what is medical education credential verification? and whats its importance? can a graduate give exams like step 1 and 2 without this verification, how long does it take usually , i submitted my application in july this year , and sent this education credential submission form with my application , my oasis shows that verification was received on 2nd november 2009 and verification is pending , how much time will it take , do i have to worry about it?

Medical Education Credentails Verification is the Verification of an applicant's Medical Degree Certificate(Medcial Diploma) by the ECFMG.
It is important because it verifies that u have graduated from a medcial school mentioned in the IMED of FAIMER which is one of the prerequisites to get an ECFMG Certificate after passing the required USMLE Steps.
The time depends on how long it takes for yur medical school to send yur medical school transcript alongwith yur certified medical Diploma back to the ECFMG.
According to yur ECFMG OASIS account update yur verification documents have been recieved by the ECFMG on 2nd November,2009 ,but the verification is still pending.It takes sometime for the ECFMG to verify your credentials after they have been recieved from yur medical school.It will be automatically updated once the ECFMG is satisfied with the documents they recieved from yur Medical school.
Ye, an IMG can take the exams without his/her credentials having been verified by the ECFMG.BTW,U already passed yur step-1 and yur Medical Diploma is yet to be verified.

zoah2005 - 11-27-09 06:16 yep actually i was unsure that how they accepted my application without my credential verification , but now i know that verification is compulsory for certification but not for taking the exams.

Verification by the ECFMG can take from 6-8 weeks.

I have recently got my MBBS degree from China and I have also passed the Step 1 exam.
Now I have to submit my medical credentials to the ECFMG. I have two documents, one named Diploma of Graduation and the other one named MBBS degree certificate. So I am confused as to which document out of these two,I have to submit.
Secondly,there is another thing about the size of the documents in the ECFMG information booklet. The booklet mentions that the size should be 216mm x 279mm, but my original documents are A4 size. So can I send the photocopy of my documents as they are or should the copy be on 216mm x 279 mm paper or can I use an A4 size paper but resize the documents to 216mm x 279mm ?
Please clearify about the above mentioned things.

The photocopies of your medical diploma must be 216 mm x 279 mm (8½ in x 11 in). If these documents are larger than 216 mm x 279 mm (8½ in x 11 in), you must send reduced photocopies that are 216 mm x 279 mm (8½ in x 11 in).
From Chinese medical schools the Credentials required by the ECFMG are "Bachelor of Medicine in Medicine or MBBS degree certificate".
