hi .
i want to start my preparation for usmle exam. i passed my medical school in 2002. does it affect to get residency.
please any one can give this answer.

Ye, it affects the chances of geting into a residency program.Greater the number of years which have elapsed after one's year of graduation,more difficult it becomes to get into a program.
Usually, if one is within five years of his/her graduation then that individual is said to have a good chance of matching into a program.Being only within three years of graduation is said to be the best for an applicant.
If one is past five years since graduation then there r still ways to strengthen one's credentials by increasing one's USCE,getting US LORs,getting High USMLE Scores,etc.But it is always better to be within five years of graduation.

actually it will also depend upon the specialty you want to pursue.. as the criteria varies a lot from program to program.. so you need to research well before applying
