Ye, it affects the chances of geting into a residency program.Greater the number of years which have elapsed after one's year of graduation,more difficult it becomes to get into a program.
Usually, if one is within five years of his/her graduation then that individual is said to have a good chance of matching into a program.Being only within three years of graduation is said to be the best for an applicant.
If one is past five years since graduation then there r still ways to strengthen one's credentials by increasing one's USCE,getting US LORs,getting High USMLE Scores,etc.But it is always better to be within five years of graduation.

bingousmle - 09-21-10 09:17 actually it will also depend upon the specialty you want to pursue.. as the criteria varies a lot from program to program.. so you need to research well before applying
