Adonis's Advice Regarding Step-2CS Test

Here is what helped me pass the Step-2CS exam with flying colours.This is a small gift for the member Docbul,and others who r going to take Step-2CS :

Take a deep breath because u will then feel less anxiety.
Ask for permission before entering.
Introduce yourself first and with confidence.
Use the patient's name and ask if u used it correctly.
Smile.
Ask the patient whether he/she is comfortable sitting and then drape.
Use open ended questions at the begining and where ever needed .
Speak slower than usual.
Use very simple words ,and avoid medical jargon.
Paraphrase thro' out.
Do not write too much on scrap paper and write always while paraphrasing.
Maintain eye contact while listening and speaking to the patient.
Summarise correctly.
Do not ask them to repeat what they have said.
Ask if they want to add anything else.
Always look at the patient while talking to him/her.
Before washing hands let them know what you are going to do.
Always Wash hands in front of the patient and say "thanks for your cooperation".
Can talk to them about their hobbies and their work while you are washing your hands.
Use transitions.
Do closing .
Ask permissions before touching or untying their gown.
Tie the gown back always .
Always Pull out /push in the leg support.
Address their concerns by answering their questions after carefully listening to them.
Ask them for any questions they might have.
Express appropriate empathy when they say anything which demands empathy.
Give ongoing support where ever required .
Do a quick and a gentle examination (focussed ) .
Do MMSE in elderly patients.
Touch all the main points about the chief complaint and various headings in the history.
Counsel on smoking,alcohol,hypertension,diabetes,sexual history,allergies whenever required.
Before leaving ,tell the patients , "I am glad u came in."

If anyone follows these points ,I m very sure that it will not be difficult for him/her to pass this exam.
