Amyloid is a fibrillary protein which deposits in intersticial tissues resulting in the organ disfunction.Amyloid is derived from different proteins.
Common sites of involvments are:
Heart (restrictive cardiomyopathy)
Spleen
Tongue
Adrenals
Liver
Kidneys
Musculoskeletal(Carpal tunel Synd )
CNS (Alzheimer beta amyloid,Anyloid is toxis to neurons.
Medullary carcinoma of thyroid

sshahraz - 02-25-08 17:19 This is a tricky question and I don't think usmle asks about the leasts vs. most common. I am saying this is tricky because I suspect there is any evidence out there supporting the percentage of types of renal involvement in MM. I mean if kidneys primarily affected or not. But according to UpToDate you can see that in general kidney involvement is not uncommon:
"Renal disease is a common problem in multiple myeloma, although a variety of different mechanisms may be involved (43% in one series)
Myeloma cast nephropathy (myeloma kidney)
Primary amyloidosis
Light chain deposition disease
Renal tubular dysfunction" R: UPTODATE
