ANP in hemorrhage

Anybody knows why ANP goes up after hemorrhage? This is a bit counterintuitive! When blood volume decreases the ANP should go down to reserve some water for the body. But it really increases. I found it in Goljan's notes and checked the truth with some articles.

Yes! you are right to think like that, but remember that when volemia goes down, the Sodium concetration relatively goes up, which is another one of the indirect mechanisms why the ANP goes up.

Thanks! I thought ANP is always counteract Angiotensin. So, no matter what the underlying cause of the problme is, ANP goes up when angiotensin increases just to counteract its effect. I wonder if ANP is sensitive to increased NA or volume or both.

Both. Remember the word natriuretic...it means that you void sodium, so high concentrations of sodium, will also make ANP work
