hi adonis , my scores are 88 in both the steps , cleared step 2 cs on the first attempt and i am awaiting my step 3 results. i just got one interview this year. i dont think i will be matching for the 2011 residency . i have done 6 months research in a teaching hospital in US , but it was after submitting my CV in sept. what do i have to do to improve my chances for matching in 2012? honestly speaking do i have to make it ever into int med residency?? kindly reply

The good things r that yur scores r above at least 85 on both the USMLE Steps and u passed the Step-2CS on the first attempt and u have a research experience at a US teaching hospital.
U need to tell us about yur year of graduation and the specialty u wanna apply for.
Score at least above 85 on Step-3 and a score above 90 wud be great.
Do observerships and get at least three excellent US LORs.Write a very good and a short PS.
Don't show any gaps in yur CV.
Best Wishes!

Do observeships in IM and get LORs from IM faculty and preferably at a teaching hospital.
LORs by Family Physicians will only be helpful if u wanna go into FM.
U do have a chance to match into an IM program, but u need to boost up yur CV with a great Step-3 score and u need to do observerships in IM.
Also, do apply to FM as a back-up.
Best Wishes!
