Re: attempts InSitu - 01-06-08 21:12 Being a green card holder is a big plus. Attempts are negative but its not the end of the world. Prepare a good application with a good Personal statement. If the match does not work out then Scramble. Giving up is not a choice and there is no way to evaluate or predict your chances. Anything can heppen in the Match and Scramble.

Re: attempts laparotomy - 01-14-08 14:28 It is possible but no guarantees. You may match or maybe you will not. The worst thing that can happen to you is if you get for example 20 interviews, you travell out for all of them, spend a fortune and then dont match and dont scramble either. It is like a casino, you may win or you may loose. If you dont play you cannot win. Also if you dont play you will not lose any money invested in it....

Re: attempts laparotomy - 01-14-08 14:35 If you get externships or observerships it helps but again no guarantees. It costs a lot of money. I feel a bit guilty about not writing more encouraging advice but I think it would be wrong for me to write...."go for it, dont give up, try hard even if it takes 5 years just try every year, do as many externships as you can". And what if it does not work and you lose all the money and time.
It is up to you. I know some people who could not live with not even trying. Some say it is better to try and try and not get it than to live with the guilt that had I tried I would have gotten it.
And a last word, it is not impossible, you may get a spot. So it is up to you.
