caused by deficiency of thiamine
dry beri beri which predominantly affects the nervous system shown symmetric polyneuritis, ascending paralysis of the peripheral nervous system
sensory involvement is seen first followed by motor and autonomous system involvement
tactile then pain then temperature
paresthesia and hyperthesia begins first in le then ue then perioral
loss of dtr
horizontal nystagmus, ophthalmoplegia ataxia
wernicke korsakoffs in alcoholics
