Yes! The state under you took your licensing exam is not necessarily the one you are going to practice, simply because after you pass step 3 you do not have a license still, you need to do either one, two or three years of residency depending where you are going to practice...so that is the real license.

Example: I took my step 3 under the state of Connecticutt, but I am going to New York, simply because New York does not allow me to take it without at least one year of medical residency.

Before applying for the exam, check the requsites for each state to be sure if you can take it under your state of choice

i got cs results on 26th march. i passed the exam. now i want to take step3 in august. how are the chances to get the exam date in august? is it difficult to get the date similar to cs? do i need to apply for ecfmg for certification or they automatically send it once we pass cs? my credentials reached ecfmg on 14th march from my college, so how much time it takes to receive my ecfmg certificate? is there any way that i can apply for step 3 with cs results (already finished step 1 & CK) so that i can get the date in august? please reply

For applying to the step 3 you need an ECFMG certification. You can apply once you look in OASIS that they sent the certification. So, you need to clear all exams and have your credentials (school papers clearde)

About the states, it doesn't matter in which state you are going to work, so apply to the exam under the state that makes it easier for you (I did under Connecticutt)

Not necessarily! Look, I took it under the state of Connecticutt, and my exam was in Brooklyn, NY. It doesn't matter. Remember, you won't be given a license when you pass step 3, after that you need at least one or two or three (depending on the state) years of medical residency to get an actual licence.

Usually you take the exam in the closest, most convenient, or with sooner dates center to you.

are the dates available most of the time to take the exam once we get the ecfmg certificate or it is as difficult as the cs to have the dates and places available?

It's just like the ones for Step 1 & 2 CK, you will take it in a Prometric Testing Center close to were you live, so it will be easy to schedule your test few weeks ahead. GL

And also there are less people applying for it too! Except that it is only given in the U.S. so there are some cities where is difficult to get a close date.
