Mammograms (with or without clinical breast examinations) have clearly been shown to reduce mortality associated with breast cancer. they are recommended routinely every 1–2 years beginning at age 40.

a patient without family history if breast cancer should start mammography screening at age 40. should there be apositive family history of breast cancer, then she would start at age 35.
