A 27 year old male was brought to the ER by police after a traffic violation. He was driving with her GF, who told that he is acting strange for last couples of days. He bought expensive gifts for her..not eating well..staying awake whole night playing online games. He even threatened the police saying " If you know who I am, you would not mess with me".

He doesn't drink alcohol or smoke tobacco. He was taking some medicine for depression for last 1 years which he can't remember. Last month he stopped taking it. Because he thought " Let's see what happens?"

in this case when we do a urine toxicology screen are we supposed to also take the consent? and what will be the next step if the patient refuses?

Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome occurs in approximately 20 percent of patients after abrupt discontinuation of an antidepressant medication that was taken for at least six weeks. Typical symptoms of antidepressant discontinuation syndrome include flu-like symptoms, insomnia, nausea, imbalance, sensory disturbances, and hyperarousal.

it is probably a case of a bipolar disorder and a precipitation of acute mania though it looks to be due to the discontinuation of medication.... so adonis waitng for your opinion in case of consent refusal for urine tox screen..

written consent is required for toxicological screening in all cases of drug abuse..unless the person is a minor in which case the parent or guardian needs to give a consent.

well with respect to the CCS there is no need to take consent for procedures as it is not there in the protocol for CCS.. you ll know this once you do the software
