chorionic villi develop from the fetal trophoblastic tissue and hence its genotype has to be fetal...and that is the reason we use it for finding genetic abnormalities

it will be both as the chorionic villi are formed from contributions by both maternal and fetal tissue though the fetal is more specific as maternal component is only the blood
