A 62-year-old Caucasian woman presents to the office with complaints of chest discomfort and mild shortness of breath while walking. She started having these symptoms after starting an exercise program two weeks ago. She describes the pain as a dull pressure, which starts within a few minutes after the beginning of exercise, and resolves with rest. Her past medical problems include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and a history of panic attacks. She takes aspirin, atorvastatin, and lisinopril daily. She denies any history of smoking or alcohol intake. Her physical examination and resting electrocardiogram is unremarkable. Which of the following is the most appropriate for the initial assessment of this patient?
