may be duodenal atresia

#2
Re: deep truths 4
bingousmle - 11-16-08 04:51

it would be a case of high intestinal obstruction so i think there would be a possibility of duodenal atresia , malrotation of the gut with midgut volvulus ,annular pancreas , duodenal web..

what is the genetic abnormality in which duodenal atresia is associated and what produces the double bubble sign seen in DA

Re: deep truths 4

duodenal atresia genetic abnormality is downs syndrome

Re: deep truths 4

ya , and the double bubble appearance is due to the air colummn proximal to the obstruction separated by the pyloric sphicter.
any views about malrotation of midgut

rat tail achalasia cardia?
bird beak -sigmoid volvulus?

#16
Re: deep truths 4
kingofhearts - 11-20-08 08:22

well i think rats tail appearance is the xray finding in carcinoma oesophagus......and in achalasia cardia it is a so called CUCUMBER oesophagus......and birds beak appearance in volvulus of the sigmoid colon.....

an increased levels of the following substances can be corellated with which type of anemia.
1.methylmalonyl coA
2.ferritin
3.homocysteine
4.lactate dehydrogenase.
5.homocysteine

#18
Re: deep truths 4
usmlefever3 - 11-22-08 12:40

1methylmalonyl coA-B12 def anaemia
2.ferritin-sideroblastic anaemia
3.homocysteine-folate or B12 def anaemia
4.lactate dehydrogenase-haemolytic anaemia

#19
Re: deep truths 4
bingousmle - 11-22-08 12:46

thats absolutely true , ferritin levels will also be increased in anemia of chronic disease . what do you think is the relationship of methionine with regards to anemia

#20
Re: deep truths 4
usmlefever3 - 11-22-08 14:45

well regarding the reaction where homocysteine converts to methionine to transfer methyl from B12.......i guess if there is increase in methionine then this reaction will get disturbed.....so may be again megaloblastic anaemia

#21
Re: deep truths 4
bingousmle - 11-23-08 00:06

yeah you got the link... so in megaloblastic anemia both due to deficiency of vit B12 and folate there will be decreased levels of methionine and an increased level of homocysteine.

Re: deep truths 4
usmlefever3 - 11-23-08 13:41

what is the mechanism of megaloblastic anaemia in phenytoin

#23
Re: deep truths 4
bingousmle - 11-24-08 08:51

phenytoin decreases the intestinal absorption of folic acid by inhibiting intestinal conjugases and thus causes megaloblastic anemias .

what disease states are the following cells found
burr cells, acanthocytes

#24
Re: deep truths 4
usmlefever3 - 11-26-08 04:58

burr cells in uraemia and acanthocytes in haemolytic anamia

#25
Re: deep truths 4
bingousmle - 11-26-08 06:02

yes , burr cells are indicative of renal disease ,in hemolytic anemia you may see schistocytes, acanthocytes are suggestive of liver / lipid abnormalities.
