bingousmle - 11-16-08 02:23 yes, just to quickly revise , medial border-ext pollicic longus/lat border- ext pollicis brevis and abd pollicis longus/ base trapezium and scaphoid/ and tenderness is d/t #scaphoid unless proven otherwise

kingofhearts - 11-20-08 08:48 the anatomical snuff box is limited above by the styloid process of the radius and the floor is formed by trapezium and scaphoid and is crossed by radial artery......so it could involve also these .....

but the first dd should be scaphoid# because:
most commonly #ed; as it has an important functional role in transmitting large forces especially when the wrist is forced into extreme positions as in a fall with an outstretched hand or during sports injury.
this obviously has to be confirmed by an xray

bingousmle - 11-20-08 22:34 ya the XRAY will decide ,but many a times a fatigue or some minor fracture might not always be picked up on x ray and that is where a clinical judgement is required and so an injury to the wrist leading to tenderness in the anatomical snuff box should prompt one to suspect scaphoid# !
