your friend tells you that he is studying a substance cellular tansport proprties and that it requires neither requires ATP nor is dependent on Na gradient , but needs a carrier. you immediately tell him that this is called cotransport. are you justified in saying that?

no this is not cotransport . i think it is facilitated diffusion which is a type of passive transport and a protein carrier is required in it

@ kingofhearts , to procure the latest set of dvds a search on social networking sites , may prove useful.

regarding the vignette , you are absolutely justified to say that it is facilated diffusion!!

and that cotransport would be a case where a substance would be transported across the Na gradient and use metabolic energy of ATP

active transport is divided in direct and indirect forms...........co transport is in indirect form
can u give example for facilitated diffusion

yes co and counter transport are the two types of secondary active transport.
the simplest example for facilitated diffusion would be the transport of glucose by the GLUT carrieer proteins.
