U only need to pass the USMLE Steps-1,Step-2CK,Step-2CS in order to join a residency program.Passing USMLE Step-3 is only required to get a licensure to practice in the US and can be passed both before or during a residency training.

Re: Do I Need To Pass All the 3 USMLE St hytsyl - 03-08-10 11:08 Well, it will depend on your visa, if you will need visa status, such as Hi-b then you will need step 3 passed too. Your problem will be that Step 2 CS has to be taken only in USA and sometimes extremely hard to schedule anyway.
