radhamesramos - 05-16-08 09:01 IF you are looking for Family Practice or IM, and even surgery, this observership is the perfect one for you. Try to get good LORs that state what your functions are, and that outlines all the work you're doing and a PD will be impressed. Research is only better if you get to publish, or you apply to a research-oriented program, and even like that you need to get a very good LOR

Re: family practice or rsearch in hospit
radhamesramos - 05-17-08 08:53 it is not as easy as it seems. Anyways, if you are reaaly interested in research, you can use that motivation to find a job in research...contact programs, mainly those university-based ones...it may take a while to get a position, they usually don't sponsor visas (University of Miami does, don't know about the rest) and you need to climb in order to appear in the publication. But, if you really feel motivated to do it , do it. Sometimes, you don't get to publish any paper, but residency staff gets to notice you, and they will help you to get a residency position there, mainly if it is a large program
