Hi, I have done masters in internal medicine and cleared all the Usmle steps including step 3. Are there any chances of me, getting into fellowship programs without doing IM residency?

Re: fellowship chances TheOne - 01-06-08 00:01 Yes, you have to have an evidence that you completed a residency in your home country to qualify for a fellowship position. Also remember that you can't get a license to practice your specialty in the US unless you have done your residency here.

Re: fellowship chances TheOne - 01-06-08 00:25 Great, first decide which fellowship specialty you're looking for then see if the NRMP (http://www.nrmp.org) have it on there website. If not, try the FREIDA online website to locate your specialty (http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2997.html) then see what kind of match or process they look for upon application and the deadlines.

Re: fellowship chances mindswapper - 01-08-08 00:08 Yeah check out NRMP and the FREIDA for the list of fellowship options.
But remember you can NEVER practice in the US without doing residency here (although u may have done fellowship here) cos u wont get a 'licence to practise' unless u do residency here!
