Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-02-06 16:58 Awesome, I like Neo "wish I be able to fly & avoid bullets"... :-D
A Prematch offer is a great chance to settle down, it's usually offered by low tier hospitals that are known to end up with unfilled positions on their program. Many doctors may take these offers to avoid the stress of the match.
And Jumana, yes I'm looking, is there anyone??? ;-)

TheOne - 12-02-06 22:09 For someone who have "NO" interview invitations till now "me", I will definitely go for it...
For someone who have good credits and thinks that he can end up in better programs, then i'll encourage him to go for the match.

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-03-06 00:31 The person beyond this idea was Kooki, the admin, and I'm here helping him to develop this site.
As I always tell him: "Now it's my web site", thats why you find me here almost all the time. It's a team work.
Dr.Fischer's visit was purely coincidental, and we hope that he'll show up soon.

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-18-06 13:32 Where can I find more information about the prematch, and what do you think about the fmg.org, and their externships?
Prematch is an offer from a medical program to join them after they interview you and decide to pick you before anyone else would. It's usually offered by lower tier programs "eg. community programs in rural areas, programs that went unfilled through the last years, programs that want to wrap-up their recruitment needs before the match to avoid the "headache" that accompanies it, etc."
I have no idea about fmg.org, it looks like the sites that offer externships or "hands-on" clinical experience is increasing. I have some idea about GMC group & FMGportal web sites, they offer this "hands-on" clinical experience in many places but they charge you some money for that, here's their website addresses:
http://www.gmcgroup.org/
http://www.fmgportal.com/
I don't have any feed back from anyone who joined these programs, also you need to call them as their email contact doesn't work, good luck.
For you tshfi,
I did send you samples of LORs, hope it works. And for externships or observships, use this link:
http://tips4match.blogspot.com/2006/01/hospitals-that-offer-observerships.html
if you're still in med school, then you will definitely need a list of the hospitals that offer electives/clerkships:
http://tips4match.blogspot.com/2006/06/hospitals-offering-clinical-electives.html
Good luck...

Dr. Fischer RULES
Jumana - 12-19-06 16:14 I also suspect Dr. Conrad Fischer to have a hand in this site. Anyone can prove it? That would be cool. Dr. Fischer we do love your way of teaching and hope you can come here more often...or maybe you are TheOne... lol

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-20-06 12:23 It seem that I love this country more than any other place in this world, that's why I cann't think of "One" disadvantage.
I believe that medicine & the mediacl knowledge offered in the States is the best for many reasons:
1- Guidance offered by the supervisors & seniors.
2- The latest technology used in all hospitals which are easily accessible.
3- "Team Work" as we all hear this term tens of times daily in our countries, but never seen it on practice.
4- Competitivness is the fuel for the optimum performance, guided with idea of "If you do a small mistake..that's ok, but if you screw a patient...then there's a case waiting for you in the court".
5- The fellowship & research options are simply outstanding.
In a country where system and rules are common denominators, where there's a regulation for everything, where hard work is appreciated and awarded is a country that deserves all the respect and definitely...it'll be of great privilege to join their residency.

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-22-06 11:55 Hey Everyone,
Seems that things are getting more interesting here.
why should we go on court? if it is a mistake- the 1 in 1000 mistakes, you at least saved the 999!!
you see tssst, it's my personal experience that makes me say "even if someone saves 9,999 and screws one patient because he was in hurry to catch the monday night football or he's late on his dinner with the girlfriend who gave some good signals that there will be extra sweet tonight... they should bust his a** to the court".
Horrible things happens because we forget "the basics", and as i told you, simple mistakes are forgiven, but tell me what do you think about these ones:
1- While treating a 1 year old child for simple gastoeneteritis, the baby dies of hyperkalemia cause the doctor smoothly & professionally administers IV pottasium "thinking" that he's pushing flagyl. He fail in a simple intellectuall task..."Asking".
2- In the emergency room, he's "fighting" with each and every patient just because he feels that patients are "dumb & pain in the a**", so he "fries" a patient with more than 7 DC shocks "thinking" that she is having a VFib while it was a "grand mal seizure". Thank god the patient lived cause there was someone good to manage her.
And there are many other "real-life" examples, but what do you think happend in the above scenarios...nothing!!!
no punishment, no court, nothing!!!
I'm not saying that our job is easy or fun, making decisions is one of the toughest things in life especially when it concerns someone health or life. We all make mistakes, in different sizes, but the smart ones among us are the ones who learn from their mistakes and most importantly, from others too. Why do you think they make "Ethics" book, many of us think it's silly or a waste of time as it's a "Common Sense" thing; well yes, but won't it be a good thing to add some new things to your "Common Sense" area in your Parietal lobe!!!
BTW, Jaguars is my favorite team & badgirl, how's the book?? I mean beside it's awkward dedication.

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-22-06 13:58 And the second time 55 year old male with acute MI less than 6 hours comes in coma 2 and BP 90/40 and HR of 35 not responsive to atropine , has been resuscitated in the ambulance, the internist tries the central IV- for 30 min ....so I come with the crazy idea of a trombolisys -and I'm not kidding-only for my own curiosity- so the more crazy internist says "we'll do it your way, now" and does that- over the night litres of blood comes from everywhere and the patient dies in the next hours; I only got drunk this time;
do I need to change my glasses or what?? where's the malpractice here??? you came with an idea, shared it with the internist, who looks angry cause he couldn't manage the the CIV; but it didn't work.
unfortunatelly there's no "Willing-Detector machine" that, if availabe, it would helped many good ones & I believe that each one of us have a different definition of "Malpractice", thats why we have many cases waiting on the court & many lawyers enjoying the "word manipulation" game.
Do your best, work hard, ask if you don't know, read, read & read, don't be scared of "Malpractice" or "Law Suit" terms if your work is done according to the guidelines & finally stick to the basics in life & medicine.
Good Luck

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-22-06 16:32 Well, you won't go to the jail, why do you think they have the well-kown "Malpractice Insurance", it's your back up plan in these situations. Once more, it doesn't mean that you will ever need to use it.
Mistakes happen for everyone, and we do have to live with them. Living with problems is better than being dead without them.
That's true, people always tell you how good you are, and things like malpractice suits will never happen to you... but we need to remind ourselves with the consequences of our work and actions everytime and you have all the freedom to do all the adventures with your life but not with others, shocky things may be fun for you but it may send someone up high in the sky. Why do you think they punish people with DUI???

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-22-06 16:48 you're welcome..

Re: for TheOne
TheOne - 12-29-06 20:41 I just applied to 20 programs yesterday.
Don't you think you're too late, many programs have the 1st of December as their deadline for application. Did you check the deadlines of the 20 programs that you applied for??
One more question.... If I don't match anywhere or if no programs offer to interview me..... can I use the same letters of recommendation for the 2008 match?
there's a new service, known as the Return of Document Service (RODS), is expected to be implemented by February 2007 on the ECFMG & ERAS. We'll wait and see..Good luck.
