get a residency or become a license MD

If you did not match, you still have a great chance of getting a residency position in puerto rico. Puerto Rico is an island about 3000 miles from Florida shores.
Puerto Rico is a territory of United States of America and all residency programs are accredited by AGME.
Your chances increase because although some residency programs participate of ERAS, you can reach directly the residency coordinator turn i all require documentation and easily get an interview. If you have your ECFMG certification or steps I II II, you have a great deal of chance to enter a program
Why is this so I will eplain why. The mayority of doctors who train in Puerto Rico or abroad take the Puerto Rican boards (not usmle), if you pass all three steps you are elegible for licensure and may practice as a general physician. this is good but can be in disadvantage beacause you are not elegible for residency training, this is odd, but it is a fact in our country. These boards might be an alternative for most of you if you have not pass the usmle and want to become license to practice medicine in a USA territory, even in the USA if you work for the federal goverment (indian reservation, correctional, VA hospitals etc)
Good luck,I hope I was of some help

mindswapper - 02-18-08 13:09 I am ready to learn Spanish too! Will they accept a Spanish learner? A new-bie?
1. But is it possible to do a residency in PR?
2. Can one practice in the US with the residency training done in the PR?
3. Is the residency done in PR paid?
