Got A Plan for Step 3?
TheOne - 12-30-07 19:34
Hi there,
This is the last one, you don't have to worry about anymore tests with the title of "USMLE" once you clear it. Ok, I'm going to be precise about it.
How to prepare? First Aid for Step 3 is by far one the best review books, same for Crush Step 3. Kaplan series still kicks in this test, having the notes and the videos is a very good way to prepare well. The usmleworld.com question bank is a good source for review quetions. Add usmlesteps123.com as a powerful CCS review site
If you're an IMG applying for the test before getting into a residency, have the books mentioned above, they are invaluable.
If you're in an IM or FM residency, you will only need First Aid or Crush plus a good question bank is far enough.
Finally, for residents in all other specialties use the materials mentioned above for a good preparation for the test.
How Long? 2-3 months are enough.
Good Luck..

Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
drpatrick - 01-06-08 12:51 2-3 months?! How long did you study for Step 2? I studied for Step 2 very extensively and for me that meant 6 weeks, during which I was doing clinical rotations. I was planning to allow just 1 month for Step 3. Do you think that is too little time?

Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
radhamesramos - 01-07-08 12:38 Yeah! Studying for step I and II can be extensive, but It shouldn't be for Step III. Why? Because this is the most practical exam of all of them....and if most of the answers do not come right away, it is because you`re not getting the grip of the Clinical case you've been presented.
When you take Step III, you're supposed to be able to practice medicine without supervision.
I agree with TheOne about the books, and how studyin. Kaplan videos are great, and this 2 -3 months is only watch the videos, answer questions ( a lot of questions of most available banks) and practice the CCS. That is Step III, anybody who tells you otherwise is going to make you waste precious time

Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
radhamesramos - 01-11-08 10:03 Ok! You are not allowed to register under all states, only a few, that would accept you take the exam without any residency experience. When I took mine, I registered under the state of Connecticutt, the are some others, you can see that info in FSMB.org

Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
utterker - 02-05-08 13:20 one of my friends asked me to follow crush for step 3 as paeds is asked more in exam. what do you think? does the first aid cover the topic fully?
#25
Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
TheOne - 02-05-08 13:22 If by "paeds" you mean "Pediatrics" then Fist Aid does cover it quite good.

Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
utterker - 02-05-08 13:39 as there are two parts in step 3- mcqs and ccs, do we need to prepare for the exam as two different parts or they go along with each other? do we need to study the courses for both parts simultaneously or one after the other? i mean to ask should i take the courses simultaneously for both parts or one after the other? if we have to study them one after the other which one should be first?
#28
Re: Got A Plan for Step 3?
TheOne - 02-05-08 13:41 No, first things first, focus on your studys for step 3 then after you're done, you can read Iserson's.

You should prepare for both parts simultaneoulsy, I wouldn't recommend that you prepare for them seprately. Try usmlesteps123.com for CCS. It worked for me.
