A 42 yo f pt, G 2 P 2, comes to the Dr. bzc of a 3 month h/o swelling of her legs and mild abd pain and bloating. Abd exam shows no abnormalities. Rectovaginal examination shows fullness in the rt adnexa. Transvaginal U/S shows an irregular mass in the rt ovary w/ some solid components to a predominatly cystic lesion. Her serum CA 125: 120 (N<35). Tx w/ which of the following is most likely to have prevented this pt’s symptoms?

OCPs prevent the ovulation and hence the epithelial damage which is the most common reason why the carcinoma from the epithelium develops .

conym5 - 04-08-10 20:29 Ovarian cysts may still form during oral contraceptive use, although oral contraceptives dramatically reduce formation of ovarian cysts. What really matters is whether the cyst looks like a "typical" ovarian cyst or not..

Oral contraceptives are protective against endometrial and ovarian carcinomas which are by unopposed estrogen
