HIV (2) HY*

a high risk women came in with the following results of her serum assay for hiv:
Western B. positive for gp24 and Elisa is positive

What would be the next step?
A. repeat Western blot only
B. perform pcr immediately
C. wait for a couple of months and repeat elisa and western b.
D. treat the patient with drugs
E. observe the patient assuming that the patient is already hiv positive

PCR is the answer. It takes 12-15 months for the newborn to get rid of the transferred antibodies from the infected mother. SO, we have to find the virus itself not the antibodies.

Why are we talking about a baby here? You said young woman, but not that she just delivered, and that the baby´s serum are the results posted here
