1-CMV Retinitis, occurs in HIV pt w CD4<50
Hiv patient came with blurry vision. on opthalmoscopy perivascular hemmorhage and fluffy exudates --> CMV retinitis. Rx: genicyclovir. Causes neutropenia (avoid with AZT). life long proph
Ocular Toxoplasmosis, severe retinal choroiditis, >50% have encephalitis. Necrosis of inner retina as white fluffy lesions.
Herpes Simples Keratitis, pain, photophobia and decreased vision. Dendritic ulcer is the mc presentation. Herpes Zoster Ophtalmicus, mostly in elderly, or HIV pt. Presents with fever, malaise, itching and burning around the eye. Vesicular rash following trigeminal nerve. If eye is involved hay conjunctivitis and dendriform corneal ulcers. 5-HIV Retinopathy, presents as benign cotton wool spots in retina which remits spontaneously.

Re: HIV EYE problems mtniharika - 09-25-09 16:42 Anterior segment findings include tumors of the periocular tissues and a variety of external infections. Posterior segment changes include an HIV-associated retinopathy and a number of opportunistic infections (OIs) of the retina and choroid.

a.Manifestations Not Associated with Opportunistic Infections
Retina : HIV retinopathy ,acute retinal necrosis
Optic Disk :papilledema, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and optic atrophy
b.Manifestations Due to Opportunistic Infections
Cytomegalovirus Retinitis
Toxoplasma Retinochoroiditis
Candida Endophthalmitis
Bacterial Retinitis
Cryptococcus Chorioretinitis
Pneumocystis Choroiditis
