How important is the score for Step 3?

First I should ask: how important is to pass it? Does it really help to get in ? There are 10 years since I haven't practiced medicine and a two-month observership didn't help much when I applied; actually I didn't get any interviews at all (after applying to 35 programs). My scores for Step 1 and 2 are 86 and 88 (failed once CS). I'm studying now for Step3. I am still dissapointed about my last try and I'm wondering if passing Step3 will improve my chances next year or I can just frame my certification and flip it over so I can forget about it? Also, if I pass it, does the score matter ? If somebody can give me an input, it would be very helpful because I feel that I'm losing my drive for studying (and my hope). I didn't know that IM and FM are so hard to get.

Re: How important is the score for Step 3? InSitu - 01-02-09 00:54 Step 3 in hand is a very good thing for all IMGs. Try to prepare fro it and take it only when you are ready.

Re: How important is the score for Step winner123 - 01-02-09 07:55 Indeed,for you step-3 score is even more impotant than all others as you have been out of clinical practice for greater than 10 years.This is a lot of time,and this will make the PD's doubt your clinical acumen.
So ,in order to assert your clinical competence,u need a very high step-3 score(>95)
I hope u get it.

How did you do in step 3? Or if you are still studying how is the preparation going?
