zkadhem - 06-07-09 14:03 In the first question, no you will not stop HTCZ.You don't treat asymptomatic hyperuricemia.
In the second question, yes you have to stop the drug.

if it is gout stop HCTZ and treat the gout.

Side effects of hctz:
Hypokalemia
Hypomagnesemia
Hyperuricemia and gout
High blood sugar
Hyperlipidemia
Hypercalcemia
Headache
Nausea/vomiting
Photosensitivity
Weight Gain

By impairing Na transport in the distal convoluted tubule, hydrochlorothiazide induces a natriuresis and concomitant water loss.
