IgA deficiency
zkadhem - 06-12-09 00:23
Up to 44% of patients with IgA deficiency have serum antibodies to IgA and if these antibodies were of IgE type then the patient will have severe reaction when he receives intravenous blood blood transfusion that contains IgA. To avoid this problem which is very serious and may lead to intergalactic shock give them 5 times washed RBCS transfusions or give them blood from IgA deficient patient!

mtniharika - 11-21-09 10:18 Anaphylactic reactions are most common in people with selective IgA deficiency (although IgA deficiency is often asymptomatic, and people may not know they have it until an anaphylactic reaction occurs). An anaphylactic reaction is a medical emergency, requiring prompt treatment, and may be life-threatening.

babbu5508 - 02-23-11 02:05 In IgA-deficient patients, the common finding is a maturation defect in B cells to produce IgA. The defect appears to involve the stem cells since IgA deficiency can be transferred by bone marrow transplantation.

Re: IgA deficiency
babbu5508 - 03-31-11 13:00 No specific treatment is available. Some people gradually develop normal levels of IgA without treatment.
Infections should be treated with antibiotics. In some cases, longer courses of antibiotics may be needed to prevent infections from coming back.
