Rotavirus, typically a disease of young children and Norwalk virus are the most frequent etiologic agents.also enteric adenovirus is a common cause of gastroenteritis.

viruses like norwalk virus andadenovirus are responsible for the majority of acute episodes of diarrhea...and usually self limited
