Ocular examination is performed on a patient during a routine medical check up. Retinal examination demonstrates a generalized retinal arteriolar constriction. The light reflex on the arterioles is broad and dull. Two areas of flame-shaped hemorrhages and multiple cotton wool spots are also seen. These findings are most suggestive of which of the following?

A. Central retinal artery occlusion


B. Central retinal vein occlusion


C. Hypertensive retinopathy

D. Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy

With hemorrhages I would pick c and b (hypertensive and back flow in central vein occulsion) but at the same time cotton wool spots refers to diabetic.

In a timed exam and since retinal examination demonstrates a generalized retinal arteriolar constriction I go for c most likely.

E. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy... flame-shaped hemorrhages and multiple cotton wool spots are also seen...most likely....
