The number of reticulocytes in the blood is a sign of how quickly they are being produced and released by the bone marrow. The normal range depends on the level of hemoglobin, and the range is higher if there has been bleeding or red cell destruction.

Re: IM/hemat. zoah2005 - 11-25-09 10:36 r u sure about this ? , because i think u might not see microspherocytes or shistocytes in peripheral smear, but elevated unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia will definitely tell u that its hemolysis. dont mind but i just wanna confirm that its from an authentic source.

I am sure the answer is betwn b n d but confused.....I am not sure whether the serum LDH levels r significantly raised to b used as a diagnostic aid but reticulocytosis n PBS with sickle cells or spherocytes or schistocytes is consistent n confirmatory of hemolytic anemia.

ncreased breakdown of hemoglobin which may result in:
increased bilirubin level (mainly indirect-reacting) with jaundice.
increased fecal and urinary urobilinogen.
Hemoglobinanemia, methaemalbuminaemia, hemoglobinuria and hemosiderinuria (where there is significant intravascular hemolysis).

b. Reticulocyte count and blood smear are the most important diagnostic tests for haemolytic anaemia..which may show fragmented rbc,nucleated cells...
