Infectious Disease part II
paperp - 10-22-10 14:40
A 23 year old male complains of a bump on his penis. He states that the bump first occured a week ago. The patient has a past medical history of asthma and eczema for which he is taking an albuterol inhalor occasionally and topical steroid cream occasionally. He had a pneumonia 6 months ago for which he was prescribed azithromycin, which has subsequently resolved. The patient has allergies to pencillin which gives a rash, sulfa drugs which causes a severe reaction as well as food allergies to peanuts, nuts and shellfish. On physical exam you note a painless beefy red ulcer.
Which of the following is the most likely organism to cause this disease?

Re: Infectious Disease part II
babbu5508 - 03-31-11 18:47 in donovanosis, the painless genital ulcers can be mistaken for syphilis. The ulcers ultimately progress to destruction of internal and external tissue, with extensive leakage of mucus and blood from the highly vascular lesions.
