Hi,

I was just wondering what the difference between Categorical Internal Medicine residency and Primary care internal medicince residency is? Also if there is a difference meaning advantages or disadvantages of doing one over the other in terms of getting into fellowships. For example if I wanted to GI or Pulmonology... Thank You

Thank You

Well, you've just mentioned the difference !!
Categorical leads to fellowships while Primary Care don't.

Technically you can apply to a Fellowship after a primary care residency, then the first question they are going to ask you (in case they even take a look at your application) is: why did you choose primary care if you wanted to do a Fellowship? Sounds creepy, huh?
