Re: Interviews
mindswapper - 01-08-08 00:22 Is it ok to call the programs and ask them now?
If yes, what or how shall we ask?

I don't see why not. I think being aggressive at times is actually of a benefit.

But how to talk to them?
What to ask professionally?

Re: Interviews
InSitu - 01-08-08 08:10 Tell them that you are a very well qualified looking to start residency program training in 2008. If they show interest they will ask you questions. Tone of confidence in your voice do miracles.

Re: Interviews
radhamesramos - 01-08-08 09:26 Besides. like that they double check your application, sometimes they overlook it when they have to deal with more than 3000 applications, and then they realize, when they doublecheck that you are a candidate that could fit perfectly their program. Also, the emphasis of showing them that you are really interested in them sometimes pays off

Re: Interviews
vladmira - 01-08-08 09:33 Hi,
I think there are still possible chances of receiving an invitation even in January. I personally had to cancel two IV invitation in NYC scheduled for mid January some days ago after I received and accepted a pre-match. I believe there are some other people in a similar situation like mine. I would think that such programs would then have a second look at applications in order to invite somebody else once they receive cancellation.
Good luck

Re: Interviews
radhamesramos - 01-08-08 09:42 There you are,
A lot of candidates are cancelling and opening slots because they took pre-match positions, so january is still a key month

Is it advisable to go personally and talk to somebody if the programs are situated nearby?
Wud that sound like being needy?

Re: Interviews
radhamesramos - 01-08-08 14:54 Above all, do not go personally. It is too agressive. Better call them, sometimes they do not like to being called but that is more polite than showing up over there
You could do it, however if you have somebody inside, but it is still a little too obvious. Just call, and try to sound casual, but serious, not too desperate

Re: Interviews
InSitu - 01-08-08 15:17 Well being too aggressive sometimes pays. Last scramble i know one guy in kanasas who walke din a residency programs and got a position. I am not saying to do it but hey if you dont mind being yelled at, do it. :)

All that matters is a residency spot in the end. It doesnt matter even if yelled at.
Of course, I am desperate (although I dunno abt others).

Re: Interviews
radhamesramos - 01-29-08 09:27 I got interviews and still feel a little desperate. I undesrtand your situation, being there thrice, so, I hope you just do fine and don't get overwhelmed with the scramble, I know it's hard, but it is an awful experience where you get a lot of experience...believe I've been there

Re: Interviews
radhamesramos - 01-31-08 11:35 don't know, I have the fifth edition which is kind of old (I started reading it, even before thinking about taking step I), so, I really don't know what is the current edition. The good thing about this book is that Kenneth Iserson himself is or was a PD

Re: Interviews
utterker - 02-01-08 03:09 some have also mentioned about other books like first aid for match, 101 biggest mistakes & how to avoid them; do you have any idea whether the book Iserson alone is sufficient or we need to read more?

I used a couple of interview startigies posted by the AMA online, they're all similar to each other when it comes to the approach and questions.
I'm lucky to have my uncle who used to hire pepole in his bussiness and we practiced together "Mocked Interviews" which helped alot when I takled the interviews. I would suggest to do mocks to everyone espicially if you have someone here in the States.
