Old graduate, 1995.
Step 1 78 = 4 attempts.
Step 2 78 = 3 attempts
Step 3 = yet to take, but still discouraged.
Us Research experience = ++++++
Us Clinical experience = ++
MPH = yet to graduate ( still in my first year)
ERAS Participation = 3 times plus current = 4
Any interviews in all = NO

Question = Is is it possible for me to do residency in US?
If yes, how?
If no, why not?
pass mark is 75, last time I checked.
Need some help and advice, thanks.

Yes... How? Get your MPH, get more US clinical experience "try hospitals that have a residency program", take step 3 and please try to pass it on the first attempt with a high score "Just to show the programs how you evolved", add new LORs from your supervisors and make sure they are great ones, and finally try to publish something during your MPH. Good luck.

It is possible.

But it hugely depends on what specialty u want. Do some research and publish papers.
Use ur contacts in the MPH and try to pull some strings in ur favor.

Get good LoRs.

Prepare well for Step 3 b4 u take it!

Thanks good people!
Your advice is sure encouraging and hope-bringing.
I will buy you a better drink on the success day.
Thanks.

But you know, it is double tragedy when you both don't have a job - means no source of income - and no residency.

Both we got to do what we got to do?
Right?
And some people will say hang tight!
Well we pray the rope does not strangle the neck.
That's funny?
Is it?

Any way, big thanks.
You all have done a wonderful job taking on my question

What I feel is: u can bank upon ur MPH a LOT and try to get good contacts, good LoRs, good research - thru ur MPH.

U can do Part-time jobs as well!

Use ur MPH to the fullest possible. I have known guys who have used their MPH tenure to the best possible way! The Univ where u are doing MPH will also be an added advantage to meet US docs on the clinical side.

dont worry about being an old grad.you guys make me feel old, i am 35 lol, and although license in P.R. I will this year take at least step one and two, hoping to match by 2010.

the important fact is that you have the usmle I and II passed my friend. Now concentrate on step III, and yes try to get a high score here so they can see how motivates you are. I know you will do great, praying this will come true for you.

Search for diferent residency programs in Puerto Rico. I know people whom only with steps I and II have found a match.

Good Luck
