Ideopathic Thrompcytopenic Purpura is caused by ideopathic antibody that bind the platlets and leading to phagocytosis of these platelets by macrophages.The following is true about ITP EXCEPT :
(A) Low platelets count
(B) Normal creatinine level
(C) Splenomegaly
(D) Increased bone marrow megakaryocytes
(E) Associated with CLL

mohhaider - 09-27-08 11:42 The answer is c .Normal spleen is what found in ITP .Normal creatinine is expected here and differntiate it from HUS and TTP .

sackatdoc - 09-28-08 09:31 yes i read yesterday only, if we see enlarged spleen, we should doubt our diagnosis of ITP, ALSO in management of ITP WHICH IS NOT REPONDING, SPLENECTOMY IS TREATMENT OF CHOICE, though spleen is not enlarged, the normal sized spleen is causing the platlets to be phagocytosed, so once removed, no thrombocytopenia.

kingofhearts - 11-19-08 04:23 dear docs i would like to add that spleenomegaly is seen in CHRONIC CASES OF IDIOPATHIC THROMBOCYTOPEBIC PURPURA...... so i would like to go with b...please correct me if i am wrong .....
