conym5 - 12-15-09 08:24 Treatment of proven crystal-induced arthritis is directed at relief of the pain and inflammation. Narcotic pain relievers, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and steroids are the mainstays of treatment.

Removing fluid containing the crystals from the joint can reduce pain and help the inflammation to diminish more quickly. Cortisone injected into an inflamed joint and oral colchicine are also used.
