i have passed step I & step II(CK), preparing for CS, but I have heard that some students are not getting rsidency after passing all steps. i have also heard that if you can't get residency , you can's get licence to practice in USA. In India we have compulsory internship & we get it without any problem and we also get license to practice after complition of internship. why it is not so in USA. if I pass all steps, can I get license to practice in USA without doing residency? please help me !!!

If you are a Foreign medical graduate, you need to take step 3 and then depending on the state you want your license from, you have to do one or two or even three (in some states ) years of Post-graduate training (residency). Actually this is not for FMGs only, but also for AMGs. We like it or not that is the rule and we have to follow it.

No residency = no licence.

This is the rule in the US.
Why?

Can u say why it is not so in India?

Likewise, it is a rule here in the US!

In my country it is the same thing that you can have your licence without residency (only one year working for the government). But in the US if you are AMG you do at least one or two (or thress in some states) years of residency to get your license, and the whole residency if you are an IMG. The cause: I really don't know. anyways if we are not happy with this rule, we don't need to have a license to practice in the US, we just can stay home and work there. I heard India is a nice place to practice medicine
