match and specialty change

I graduated from a US medical school in 2005. I did a prelimnary year in general surgery, and then I matched into a PGY-1 position in a catagorical program the following year. I have since decided I no longer want to do surgery for many resasons, so I quit my residency July 1, 2007. I am now in the match, applying to EM and pediatrics. What are my chances of matching???

AMGs have the upper hand, so your chances are good plus you're somewhat fresh grad. with good clinical experience.

A lot of chances: AMG and previous experience nad less than 5 years out of med school

being an amg it should be an easy game em / peds...i guess peds is easier for fmgs and so is for amgs

I believe, the problem with the issue of 'years after Grad' wud NOT apply for you coz u were in an accredited residency program for 2 yrs!

What were ur scores? Again ur whole CV comes into play!
Being an AMG is a very strong point!

And a good waste of a residency spot for surgery...

I second what radhamesramos says.
