match and specialty change
nlrjer79 - 02-05-08 17:28
I graduated from a US medical school in 2005. I did a prelimnary year in general surgery, and then I matched into a PGY-1 position in a catagorical program the following year. I have since decided I no longer want to do surgery for many resasons, so I quit my residency July 1, 2007. I am now in the match, applying to EM and pediatrics. What are my chances of matching???

TheOne - 02-06-08 12:12 AMGs have the upper hand, so your chances are good plus you're somewhat fresh grad. with good clinical experience.

doctor1 - 02-12-08 10:46 being an amg it should be an easy game em / peds...i guess peds is easier for fmgs and so is for amgs

mindswapper - 02-13-08 16:36 I believe, the problem with the issue of 'years after Grad' wud NOT apply for you coz u were in an accredited residency program for 2 yrs!
What were ur scores? Again ur whole CV comes into play!
Being an AMG is a very strong point!

radhamesramos - 02-14-08 11:20 And a good waste of a residency spot for surgery...
