Middle cerebral artery occlusion
zkadhem - 05-09-09 12:53
Middle cerebral artery :The MCA arises from the internal carotid and continues into the lateral sulcus where it then branches and projects to many parts of the lateral cerebral cortex. It also supplies blood to the anterior temporal lobes and the insular cortices.
Occlusion of the middle cerebral artery may result in the following defects:
1. Paralysis of the contralateral face and limbs.
2. Sensory loss in the contralateral face and limbs.
3. Aphasia (e.g. Broca's, Wernicke's, conduction, and anomic types) when the dominant hemisphere (usually the left hemisphere for right handed individuals) is affected
4. Contralateral neglect syndrome with damage to the [non dominant lobe].
5. Homonymous hemianopia or quadrantanopia ,and gaze preference toward the side of the lesion .
Also note that: Middle cerebral artery supplies the upper limbs area, so in such a lesion we expect weakness in the upper extremities more prominent.

Re: Middle cerebral artery occlusion
rocksfrow - 05-09-09 13:14 you will see a legend underneath the reply box with syntax for image insert, bold text, italic text, and underlined text :-)
i helped you out with your previous post, you need to make sure the URL you put in between the [img] tag is a DIRECT link to an image, not a webpage. zkadhem you can edit your post and look at the content of your post to understand what I did to fix it.
