MPH and PhD Routes for IMGs

Doing an MPH or a PhD can immensely strengthen one's CV. Here is some information for IMGs regarding how to apply for MPH and PhD in the US:
MPH can be done either for a fee or on a scholarship (if one has taken GRE).
You need to go the website www.sophas.org. SOPHAS is Schools of Public Health Application Service. It lists the universities which offer MPH and its streams. Maximum job options are in Epidemiology.
As you are looking for the universities, you need to get your academic credentials (the degrees you earned in your home country) evaluated to US equivalents (GPA system) by agencies like 'ece' or 'wes'. This is extremely important as this is the first step for getting admission to any course. This is similar to getting our medical degree verified by the ECFMG. In this case, you fill an application on World Education Services 'wes' or Educational Credential Evaluators 'ece' website and your university from your home country sends your transcripts (which are different from medical school transcripts). Other documents may be needed depending on one's home country.
After credentials' evaluation, simply select the universities. Some Universities need GRE while some exempt the applicants from it if they are ECFMG certified. Still having a good GRE score improves one's chances of getting a tuition fee waiver and also getting a part time job or a scholarship.
After selecting the universities on www.sophas.org , pay the application fees and apply and wait for your admission. Having an MPH drastically improves your CV because of research and contacts and also gives you job options in the US (if you are good during your MPH).
It takes 2-3 months for GRE preparation if you are comfortable with maths and english.
More information can be found on www.ets.org.
If you are at all thinking of taking GRE, plan to get a good score and get admission in to PhD instead of MPH. You are eligible for PhD since you are a medical school graduate. MPH is 1-2 years and PhD is 3-5 years but PhD is a very highly rated degree and job options ,off course, are brilliant for bright and persistent students.

Good Luck!

One can get an F1 Student's visa for these courses.Ye,on this visa it is allowed to work ,but only for some limited hours per week, mostly in the college campus. Here r the details regarding working on an F1 visa:
"Except for on-campus employment of 20 hours a week or less, F-1 students are generally not permitted to work in the US without prior authorization from Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). However, the USCIS may grant work authorization for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). Students are permitted to work for a total of 40 months towards practical training (eg. internship), which can be distributed between Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). An interim order was passed on April 8, 2008 allowing students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to legally work under OPT for 29 months."

Ooops!!
It is actually 'fee' not 'free'. It is a typing error I just noticed when u pointed it out.The letters in the two words r almost the same.
Thanks for poinying this out.A typing error like this can make a huge difference.
Ye, nothing in this country can be done for free.
I have corrected it now.
Good Luck and Regards!

THANKS ADONIS , no I am talking about the master in micro and imminology.

Microbiology and Immunology graduate programs focus on the discovery of the molecular mechanisms of microbial and immune diseases, new therapies and preventive measures. Graduates with a masters (MS) or PhD degree in microbiology and immunology can enter careers as microbiologists, immunologists, biological/immunology research scientists and more.
This means that these masters courses in Immunolgy and Microbiology will definitely improve one's CV for residency application and more so if accompanied by any research publications.
Good Luck!
