raised intracranial pressure is an absolute contraindication for lumbar puncture due to risk of herniation......

all other lesions may be seen in cases other than meningitis but a positive kernigs is specific for meningitis or meningeal irritation

Well LP is c.i in d probable ptnts of meningitis only when der is any impending herniation in v/o raised ict.....out of all d options only A n B can cause severly raised ict out of wch "B" is better an indicator of severity of raised ict dan "A"

ammulufy - 08-01-10 21:46 Well jst been a bit hasty....I thought it is a positive c/o meningitis n not d suspected one n thought d neurological deficit to be d complication of meningitis....yes option d is rght for aiding in diagnosing meningitis....but only after positively ruling out other dds of meningitis.

Idiopathic (unidentified cause) increased intracranial pressure (ICP)
Rationale: lumbar puncture in the presence of increased ICP may cause uncal herniation
