B. focal neurologic abnormality
C. known central nervous system (CNS) mass lesion
D. positive Kernig’s sign
E. recent head trauma

all other lesions may be seen in cases other than meningitis but a positive kernigs is specific for meningitis or meningeal irritation

Well LP is c.i in d probable ptnts of meningitis only when der is any impending herniation in v/o raised ict.....out of all d options only A n B can cause severly raised ict out of wch "B" is better an indicator of severity of raised ict dan "A"

Well jst been a bit hasty....I thought it is a positive c/o meningitis n not d suspected one n thought d neurological deficit to be d complication of meningitis....yes option d is rght for aiding in diagnosing meningitis....but only after positively ruling out other dds of meningitis.

Lumbar puncture should not be performed in the following situations
Idiopathic (unidentified cause) increased intracranial pressure (ICP)
Rationale: lumbar puncture in the presence of increased ICP may cause uncal herniation
