the palatoglossus muscle Elevates posterior tongue, closes the oropharyngeal isthmus, and aids initiation of swallowing.

drspleen - 03-21-11 19:01 The patient has a lesion of her hypoglossal nerve. The hypoglossal nerve supplies motor innervation for all muscles of the tongue, except the palatoglossus, which is innervated by the vagus nerve (cranial nerve X).
