Hi every one. I would really like to know from people who know (especially Doctok programmers) on how I can get information about making a website like Doctok, and how much it would cost to start and to run it.
I have some good ideas about opening medical and other intersting topic websites but haven't a clue on where to start and how much it would cost me.
And dont worry I do not plan to make a USMLE website. I think Doctok is good and honestly I dont think there is much more I can offer on this area.

Re: New Website!!! InSitu - 02-01-08 16:42 Doctok is willing to listen to your requests if you have any comments or suggestions they will most likely be implemented. Much of the features you see here are requests made by members like you. Also the site was built to provide speed posts allowing you to post more and easier than the rest of the forums you see around. This you may have noticed already. Building a site does not cost much but its maintenance costs alot.

The other thing is that I would really be happy if you could place a possibility to post pictures into the website, as we know vision (to see) is very important in medicine.
Another request is, that is it possible to make a small letter box icon beside our name which will flash if we get replies to questions we posted. There may be a good reply to a thread we posted 2 weeks ago and we may never read it, but a flashing letter box or any other signal would make things easier. What do you think?

I guess laparotomy suggestions are super, and the web could improve with all of our suggestions. But I hope this blog won't disappear because of alle the IMGs that really need this service, because it makes all their lives easier, and their questions ansewered

Doctok is built by a group of MDs who use website building as a hobby. I am one of them and TheOne is another and it really does not costs us much to maintain since we do not rely on an external source. We love education and we love to share what we have with all of you. I personally very impressed with the members of this forum and how devoted to the educational part of doctok that i have not seen in other forums. Lets keep it up.
As far as the picture upload part we are working on having it implemented without affecting the speed of the forum since pictures take longer to load which may slow us down.
For the idea of flash icon we have already implemented it in the forum. When you post a question you can click on the WATCH icon on top of the thread then that thread will be added to your main page under "Threads I'm Watching". There you can see how many posts were made since your last visit to the thread.
