observership
usmlefever3 - 04-15-09 13:32
As we all know thats its very important to do observership and research in winning the race for residency,i invite everyone to share his experience and information about those.there are few queries regarding that:
how can we initiate or proceed for observership?
whats the duration of observership?
can one do it after giving CS ?
how much is the average cost of doing observership?
do we get LORs after completing observership?
i know some of these questions might be silly for some but it will be great help for beginners like me Any additional questions and queries are invited here

Re: observership
sackatdoc - 04-15-09 13:46 1-contacting programs at aamc official website
2-depends on the program offering it usually 4 weeks
3-definitely , one can do but some want ECFMG certificate as well
4-Average cost has to be calculated taking into account the fee, travelling to that place, lodging and boarding, and also cost of everyday transport.
5-one has to make the attending believe that observer desreves an LOR, but some places have had it written on their hand outs given to observers that no LORS ARE ISSUED (SO SOMETIMES IT IS HARD)

First (off),u do not need any medical insurance to do an observership because u r not supposed to touch the patients. When u r not supposed to touch the patients, the patients can in no way sue u for any malpractice claims.
In case of a clinical rotation for an International Medical Student, the Personal Health Insurance and Malpractice Insurance may/may not be covered by the institutions. It depends on the specific Institution's policies. So,u need to ask the institution itself.
You need only your Immuniation proof.
I hope u get it.
