23yr old woman has pain, cramping, swelling of right calf 3days after an uncomplicated pregnancy. Right foot swollen, marked tenderness with dorsiflexion and palpation of right calf. no other abnormalities. Complete blood count and serum within normal limits. Which is the most likely cause?
a)hypercoagulable state of pregnancy
b)platelet embolus
c)prolonged pressure on venacava during pregnancy

babbu5508 - 07-10-10 02:39 a)hypercoagulable state of pregnancy...causing increased risk of deep vein thrombosis in pregnant women...may lead to pulmonary embolus.

bingousmle - 07-15-10 01:39 it is an important cause to consider in patients with recurrent pregnancy losses, they will usually test positive for antiphospholipid antibodies
