Old graduate want residency-How?
drfauziakhan - 01-07-08 12:48
As an IMG, I graduated in 1994.
Passed Step-I, Step-II in 97 & 98, CSA and in June'07 passed Step-III also. All in first try.
Didn't got a single interview this year.
Can anyone guide me? How to enter in any program, any where?

Re: Old graduate want residency-How?
radhamesramos - 01-07-08 13:14 This is a very difficult year for everybody. Your case seems a little bit complicated, and since we are in January and no interviews, it seems you could go to scramble, something I do not wish even to my worst enemy.
Do not despair, you still can have an interview, but that depends to what and where did you apply. I have not matched for two years, so if you do not match this year, this is not the end of the world. Just try to improve your application: Personal statement, LORs, and try to get an externship or an observership, so next year you can prove USCE.
I don`t know how are your scores, but anyways, depending the specialty you want, try to find out which hospitals do not mind you being out of school for so long, believe me, there are some, but you have to look for them. Also, try to get a research position and see if you can publish something, and of course a LO from a doctor currently practicing in America...sometimes doctors from your native country are practising in the U.S, and they would be more than glad to help; you can find them in the phone book.
Hope this answes a couple of questions

drtonycamuy - 01-07-08 13:30 HI my friend. I see your worries, I can give you an advise.
I see that in Puerto Rico where I live what really matters tothe hospitals is that you have a 3 steps. therefore I recommend that if you are interesting in internal medicine or family medicine you might have a good chance in P.R.
If I can be of more help email me drtonycamuy@yahoo.com
good luck, happy new year

mindswapper - 01-07-08 22:42 Hi Fauzia,
I have some Qs for you:
1. Which specialty did u apply for?
2. How abt your USCE?
3. What is ur research experience?
4. Did u try calling up the programs?
5. Did u apply late? (Since u finished all steps in June, it seems u wud have applied rite on time!)
6. What is ur visa status?
Ur positives:
1. Good scores
2. All in 1st attempt.
Being an old grad is not an end in itself!
U still have time.
Answer my Qs too and u will know where u stand!
