zfashan - 07-22-09 01:51 paget's dz is also called ostetis deformans. Ca+. PO4, and PTH stay normal but there is an increase in ALP. It is due to an increase in activity of osteoblast and osteoclast. pt will present with increase in head size and hearing problem.

mtniharika - 12-20-09 00:06 Paget's disease of the bone (often just Paget's disease) or osteitis deformans. It is a chronic disorder that typically results in enlarged and deformed bones. The excessive breakdown and formation of bone tissue that occurs with Paget's disease can cause bone to weaken, resulting in bone pain, arthritis, deformities, and fractures.
Pagetic bone has a characteristic appearance on x-rays. A skeletal survey is therefore indicated.
An elevated level of alkaline phosphatase in the blood in combination with normal calcium, phosphate, and aminotransferase levels in an elderly patient are suggestive of Paget's disease.
Bone scans are useful in determining the extent and activity of the condition.
